Veteran BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu, 68, is all set to take oath as 13th Vice President of India today. Venkaiah Naidu won the Vice Presidential Elections held recently defeating former West Bengal Governor and Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi, the opposition candidate. The swearing-in ceremony will begin at 10 am today at Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan. The oath will be administered by President of India Ramnath Kovind and Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi attends the ceremony along with all Union Ministers. M Venkaiah Naidu paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat. Later, he also paid tributes to Jan Sangh leader Deendayal Upadhyaya, Dr BR Ambedkar and Sardar Vallabhai.
With 516 votes, Mr Naidu won 67.9 per cent vote share. He is a two-time Union minister and four-time Rajya Sabha member. Before he was NDA’s Vice Presidential candidate he held the portfolios of Parliamentary Affairs, Information and Broadcasting and Urban Development. On winning the vice-presidential poll Mr Naidu said, “India stands for… Integrated National Development Impacting All Indians, equally well. This is the mission for India.”
