In Adityanath’s Lok Sabha Constituency, Gorakhpur, 30 children have died in past 2 days at state-run hospital Baba Raghav Das Medical College, Uttar Pradesh. About 60 children have died in the last 5 days. Totally 63 children lost their lives due to the shortage of oxygen supply. SP Gorakhpur has said 21 of those deaths were due to a lack of liquid oxygen and the exact cause is being verified by the civil administration. But the Adityanath state government has fiercely denied the claim. This incident triggered the opposition parties to react on UP government seeking the resignation of the state health minister. As per the sources, a private firm has taken up the contract of supplying oxygen to the hospital. As their previous bills of Rs. 70 lakhs was not cleared by the officials, they reportedly stopped the oxygen supply from August 10th.
Already Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had visited the hospital and also ordered an inquiry into the tragedy promising that a strict action will be taken against those found responsible. The UP government stated that they had accessed to oxygen from other places to meet the demand and also ordered an investigation saying to stop spreading rubbish reports about non-availability of oxygen at the hospital. In fact, the District Magistrate said, the hospital owed Rs. 70 lakh to the regular vendor, of which it had already paid Rs. 35 lakh and also requested the vendor not to disrupt the oxygen supply. State health minister Siddharth Nath Singh said. “The deaths of children were very unfortunate and the government will set up an inquiry committee to ascertain if any lapse has been there and if anyone is found guilty he will be made accountable.”
